Guard John Stockton, who almost single-handedly preserved Sunday night's Jazz win over the Clippers, has been named Edge NBA Player of the Week.

Stockton averaged 19.3 points, 18.3 assists and 4.5 steals per game, as the Jazz won four straight. He shot .596 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and .810 from the free throw line. The Jazz have won nine of 10 games.Stockton, who ranks second in the NBA in assists and steals, scored 27 points and compiled 23 assists against the Clippers. It was the seventh time in his career Stockton has amassed more than 20 points and 20 assists in the same game.

"I thought he was terrific," said Utah Coach Jerry Sloan after the win over the Clippers. "We had a little run where nothing was happening, and John took the ball game over and didn't do anything wrong."

Other candidates for the Player of the Week were Houston's Akeem Olajuwon, Indiana's Reggie Miller, L.A.'s Magic Johnson, Minnesota's Pooh Richardson, Orlando's Scott Skiles, Philadelphia's Charles Barkley and Portland's Terry Porter.
