John Van Rowley, age 84, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City following a short illness.

John Van was born January 3, 1906 in Fillmore, Utah the son of John and Frances Smith Rowley. He married Itha Stevens September 4, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active High Priest in the Grant 4th Ward.He was retired from the Salt Lake City Corporation as a Firefighter and from ZCMI. He was a very hard worker in everything he did. Dad and grandpa was always very supportive of his family. We love and will miss you.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters, V. Merrill (Carole) Rowley, Kay R. Powell, Sharon R. Hatton, Salt Lake City; and Ralph S. (Leola) Rowley, Fruitland, Idaho; sister, Frances Tarke, Lansing, Michigan; two brothers, Freeman and Ray Rowley, Fillmore; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Melvin; one sister, Merva Burger; and one great-granddaughter, Rachel D. Ahlander.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 13, 1990 at 12 noon at the Grant 4th Ward, 2810 South 1100 East. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the MacKay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive, and Thursday at the ward, one hour prior to services. Interment, MacKay Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street, Sandy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Missionary Fund, or the Primary Childrens Medical Center.
