Utah center Walter Watts, whose consistent scoring and rebounding helped the Utes to three victories last week, was named the Western Athletic Conference player of the week on Monday.

Watts, a 6-feet-8 senior from San Jose, Calif., averaged 15.7 points and five rebounds in the three games while connecting on 21 of 26 shots from the floor for an 80 percent shooting average.Against Cal-Irvine, Watts matched his career-high point total with 21 points in helping Utah win 97-80. He went nine for 10 from the floor in Utah's 95-81 victory over Oregon. In the third game, Utah defeated intrastate rival Utah State 84-76.

Also nominated for player of the week were Wyoming center Reggie Page, Brigham Young center Shawn Bradley, New Mexico forward Khari Jaxon and San Diego State center Marty Dow.
