Police in isolationist Albania have broken up a student demonstration in the capital of Tirana, the government-controlled news agency reported in an unusually frank dispatch.

The brief story about Sunday's unrest appeared to be the first instance that the news agency, ATA, has come out before foreign media with a report on a confrontation between police and demonstrators in the communist country. The agency even indicated, though without providing specifics, that the students who took to the streets were critical of communist authorities.
