A Price man was killed Tuesday night in an underground coal mining accident near Hiawatha, authorities say.
Randy Gines, 29, was operating a roof-bolting machine when the accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in King No. 4 Mine operated by United States Fuel Company near Hiawatha, about 12 miles south of Price, a company spokeswoman said."Mining operations have been suspended out of respect for the fatally injured employee and to allow time for a full investigation of the accident," said Kay Copfer, U.S. Fuel personnel administrator.
No other employees were involved and there is no danger related to the Tuesday accident to any other employees who will be working in the mine in the future, Copfer said.
Further details of the accident were not immediately available.
The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
