A University of Utah music professor and composer has won national honors for his 12-minute orchestral piece depicting the separation of the continents.

Henry Wolking took the highest rating at the Contemporary Record Society of Pennsylvania with "Pangaea." Named after the land mass that existed before the continent divided, the composition musically depicts the geographic forces that split the continent.The piece will be performed and recorded by the Fairbanks, Alaska Symphony in February and by the Utah Symphony in June.
