Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Melvin Loynd Blood, at the age of 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City, following a long illness.
Mel was born June 8, 1912,in Kaysville, Utah, the son of Ernest Colemere and Harriet Elizabeth Lloyd Blood. Married Margaret Clawson Williams, September 23, 1938, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He grew up in Kaysville, graduated from Davis High, then came to Salt Lake City where he attended and graduated from the LDS Business College. He was an accountant and worked for more than 45 years for the Flint and Wells Distributing companies. Active High Priest in the Holiday North Stake of the LDS Church, he held many positions of service to his God and his fellow man over the years. Mel enjoyed his garden and his yard was one of the finest on the block each summer. He also loved his family dearly. His passing, even though his suffering has ended, leaves our hearts saddened.Survivors include his wife Margaret; two sons and three daughters, David W. (wife Rosann) Blood of Texas, Catherine E. Crawford of Salt Lake, Claudia (husband Dennis) Van Gerven of Colorado, Mark W. (wife Sara) Blood of West Virginia, and Barbara (husband Brad) Thornley of Salt Lake; 17 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Phillip (wife Mary) Blood of Clearfield, and Louis (wife Hazel) Blood of Kaysville; and a sister, Beatrice Everett of Bountiful. Preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton and Spencer; and a sister Leone.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 10th, 12 noon, at the Valley View Eleventh Ward, 4032 So. 2300 East, with Bishop James Dunn officiating. Friends may call Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 So. 2300 East, and at the church on Monday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
