Junior center Richard Barton scored 42 points before being forced from the game with a knee injury in leading Southern Utah to a 112-102 victory over Denver Thursday night.
Barton is expected to miss at least one game due to the partially torn ligament. Independent Southern Utah (2-3) also has been without last season's leading scorer and rebounder, William Allen, due to a knee injury.Denver (3-2), of the Colorado Athletic League, got 28 points, including four 3-point baskets, from Dave Chavlovich and 21 from Matt Cardwell.
DaVor Marcelic scored 25 points, including five 3-pointers, for Southern Utah.
The Thunderbirds outscored Denver 27-12 in the first seven minutes of the second half to extend a 48-46 halftime lead to 75-58.
