Sports enthusiasts can get their blood moving this winter in the first Utah Valley Novice Hockey League.
The adult league will teach participants the skills of skating and hockey during an eight-session program at the Utah Lake skating rink beginning in January. Following the sessions, participants will be divided into teams that will play against each other, continuing as long as the rink remains open. The program is patterned after similar programs for adults in various cities in the U.S. and Canada. The league, according to organizer Peter Valcarce, is designed for adults who never had the opportunity to learn how to play hockey as children.
The league is open to players 18 and older who have little or no experience skating or playing ice hockey.
