Two youths rescued from ledges in Rock Canyon Sunday night were apparently not traveling with adult supervision, despite earlier reports.

The eight-man Provo Police Mountain Rescue Team was dispatched to bring down Nathan Spanos and Shawn Kenney, both 17, who were hiking in the area of Buckley's Mine Trail. Contrary to early reports, the two were hiking only with another youth, Ryan Clark, family members said.Clark, who was apparently hesitant about a rope descent down some of the canyon's more sheer faces, arranged to meet the two later but became worried when Spanos and Kenney failed to show up.

A Provo resident noticed a flashing light in the canyon and called Provo police at approximately 7 p.m. The rescue team reached the youths at about 10 p.m. and retrieved both from their perches. Both were reported to be in good condition.
