Do you enjoy books and literature? Do you enjoy working with people? Then you are qualified to help fill a need for volunteers at the Orem City Library.
"Volunteers are important in our effort to make the library a resource place which families can enjoy," said Sharon Kresge, volunteer coordinator.Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of library departments. All positions require that the volunteer make a regular commitment to come to the library, usually for a several-hour stint once a week.
Volunteers are also needed to help in the acquisitions department. These volunteers will help patrons in searching for book titles, either by computer or in reference books.
Previous computer experience is not necessary. The library staff will provide the necessary training. These book-search volunteers are needed in the morning hours.
Volunteers are asked to commit to work on an on-going basis for at least three months. For more information call the United Way Volunteer Center at 374-8108.
Other community volunteer opportunities include:
- American Red Cross needs volunteers as case workers in their utility assistance program. Volunteers interview and screen clients who need help paying their utility bills. Volunteers must be able to work during Red Cross office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they are able to set their own times.
- Volunteers are needed to teach creative art skills such as drawing, painting and musical instruments to homebound individuals.
- The Utah State Training School in American Fork needs volunteers to help on a regular and one-time basis in their weekly activities such as dances, arts and crafts activities, and movies. Most activities are in the evenings and on weekends.
For more information on these and other volunteer opportunities call the United Way Volunteer Center at 374-8108.
