A West Valley woman was beaten to death early Wednesday as she arrived at her job in a west Salt Lake industrial area.
An employee discovered the body of Carol Mabe, 45, at 7 a.m. lying on the floor of her cubicle at Timesaver Industrial, 1515 S. Pioneer Road (2350 West). Salt Lake police said she had been severely bludgeoned about the head."She came in early in the morning, between 5:30 and 6 to do some cleaning and some computer work," said Lt. Jim Bell. There was no forced entry into the building, leading investigators to believe the woman was either followed inside or the assailant knocked on the door and was let inside.
A cubicle adjacent to the one where the body was found was ransacked and apparently some cash was stolen, Bell said.
Wednesday's slaying was the 24th homicide to occur in Salt Lake City this year and the second to occur in the city this week. Before 1990, the highest number of homicides to occur in Salt Lake City in any year was 22.
