A former Orem woman who pleaded no-contest last month to attempted homicide is free after being sentenced to time already served in the Utah County Jail and the Utah State Hospital.

Arvella Cowdell, 47, now living in Sandy, was accused of trying to shoot out the tires of her ex-husband's car while driving on I-15 in March 1989. She has been in custody since her arrest in June.Fourth District Judge George E. Ballif sentenced Cowdell to 172 days and gave her credit for the 172 days already served. He ordered that she enroll in outpatient treatment and pay fines and fees totaling $625.
