A Ream's grocery store could be open in Springville by the end of January.

Dick Cheney, general manager of Paul Ream Enterprises Inc., said the company has put in a bid with U.S. Bankruptcy Court to purchase the building previously occupied by the Village Pantry at 750 E. 400 South. The store originally was built to house a Dove's Happy Service Market. The bid, the only one offered, was for $1.15 million and is subject to a 10-day waiting period. Cheney said the sale should become final Dec. 11. Proceeds from the sale will go to Valley Bank and Trust.

Cheney said the store will operate under the same policy as Ream's other 10 stores. However, he said, the Springville store will have a western wear section, a bakery, a camera bar and a snack bar. The company also will open a store in Layton in February.

One of Springville's other grocery stores, the IGA Supercenter, is currently liquidating its inventory and is expected to close soon.
