Author and literary critic Benjamin L. Reid, who won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for biography, has died at the age of 72.

Reid, who died Friday in Holyoke Hospital, taught English at Mount Holyoke College for 26 years prior to his retirement in 1983.He was the author of two biographies, including "The Man from New York: John Quinn and His Friends," which won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize; a volume of memoirs and dozens of essays and poems.
