Colorado outside linebacker Alfred Williams, who consistently disrupted the passing attacks of Buffs opponents for four seasons, says being named winner of the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker is the highlight of his collegiate career.

"For an individual award, this would have to be it," he said. "Until the middle of the season I didn't pay any attention to it . . . because I didn't think it was important to pay attention to individual awards.Williams knew he was a finalist but didn't know he'd won until Tuesday morning.

"I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face since I've been told," he said.
