The four 1990 Deseret News prep football MVPs - Skyline's Joe Dupaix, Bountiful's Chris Jones, Beaver's Branden Jones, and North Summit's Matt Bates - were among more than 100 prep football players honored at a Monday night banquet sponsored by the Utah Football Coaches Association.

The four MVPs headlined the Deseret News' 108 first-team all-state selections, who received plaques at the annual banquet, held at Salt Lake Community College.The coaches association sponsors the annual event to recognize the all- state players, as named by the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune.

Besides the all-state awards, coach-of-the-year honors were given to Skyline's Roger Dupaix, Bountiful's Larry Wall, Beaver's Alan Raddon, and North Summit's Rick Harrision, who guided their teams to 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A state championships, respectively.

A special presentation by the coaches association was given to Dr. Richard Ordyna, Weber State College's assistant athletic director. Ordyna and the college were cited for their assistance in hosting the summer all-star game sponsored by the association.

Presenting the all-state awards and coaches honors were representatives of the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune, as well as television sportscasters and college and junior college coaches. Dixie College Coach Greg Crowshaw served as master of ceremonies.
