Composer Jule Styne, opera singer Rise Stevens, jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie, actress Katharine Hepburn and film director Billy Wilder received the 1990 Kennedy Center awards at an Honors Gala in Washington, D.C., Sunday night. The five were saluted for their contributions to culture. The dazzling celebration, which was attended by Vice President Dan Quayle, first lady Barbara Bush, Sen. Edward Kennedy and other top political and cultural figures, will be televised nationwide on CBS Dec. 28.
