Paramount's top guns - producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer - have been dumped. The two, the team behind "Top Gun" and "Days of Thunder," was turned loose just nine months after being signed by Paramount to a five-year "dream deal" said to be worth more than $10 million.

One reason: "Days of Thunder," which came in about $14 million over budget at $63 million, has yet to turn a profit despite grossing more than $80 million domestically.Simpson-Bruckheimer films, including "Flashdance" and "Beverly Hills Cop" pictures, have grossed an estimated $2 billion.
