Stanley Mark Smedley, former president of the Davis County Bar Association and active community leader, died of cancer Dec. 1, 1990, in a Salt Lake hospital. He was 51.

Mr. Smedley was a graduate of the University of Utah Law School and a partner in the firm of Bean and Smedley in Layton. He had just been elected to a third term as a member of the Utah House of Representatives. He recently was appointed to chair the House Judiciary Committee.Mr. Smedley chaired the Bountiful City Power Commission and the Davis County Cancer Committee. He was active in the United Way, Boy Scouts of America and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as president of the Bountiful Rotary Club.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at noon in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 51 S. Main. Friends may call Tuesday, 6-8 p.m., at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary Chapel, 295 N. Main, and on Wednesday at the church from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery.
