State licensing authorities have issued a cease and desist order prohibiting a Midvale man from representing himself as a certified public accountant.

According to a petition issued by state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Lonnie D. Crockett had the Washington School of Law send announcements to clients saying he is a CPA.Crockett also submitted an "accountant's compilation report" to two clients, the petition said.

When a division investigator visited his office, the petition said, Crockett had put tape over the letters CPA on an announcement in his office similar to the one he had sent to his clients.

"Crockett acknowledged he had covered the lettering following a conversation he had" with the investigator three months earlier, the petition said.

Crockett is not a licensed CPA, the petition said, and representing himself as such violates the state's Certified Public Account Licensing Act.
