Police arrested a Murray man Thursday evening in connection with the robbery of the Provo Smith's Food and Drug store, 350 N. Freedom Blvd., on Nov. 23.

William Joseph Smith, 33, was charged Friday with one count of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, in the 4th Circuit Court in Provo. Layton police have also issued a warrant for Smith's arrest in connection with the robbery of a Smith's Food and Drug store in that city. He is being held in the Utah County Jail.Smith is on parole from Texas, where he has previously been charged with robbery, said Provo Detective Dave Boulda. Provo, Murray and Layton police and Salt Lake City Adult Probation and Parole spent a week investigating the Provo robbery before apprehending Smith. He was armed at the time of his arrest, and police later recovered a weapon similar to the one used in the Provo Smith's store robbery, Boulda said.
