An Ogden minister is alerting teenagers to suicide prevention programs, but a mental health official urges caution and warned that such efforts have been known to backfire.
The Rev. Shirley Jones, of the Mountainview Church of Religious Science, said she became concerned that area teenagers contemplating suicide might not be aware of the programs and counseling that could help them deal with their problems. She said her concern arose when talking to a mother who said her son had tried to talk a friend out of killing himself.
Jones said she looked but couldn't find an agency to help the troubled boy. Frustrated, she said she decided to put a directory of possible referral agencies together herself.
