Garry Kasparov, playing white, held the advantage Saturday as the 16th game in his struggle with Anatoly Karpov for the World Chess Championship adjourned.

The two Soviet grandmasters resume play Sunday, with each holding 7.5 points after 15 completed matches in the marathon competition.They have had three draws in the French portion of the championship. They had 10 draws in the 12 games played at New York between Oct. 8 and Nov. 7.

Kasparov opened the match with a Scottish defense, a move he normally does not favor.
