Carl Wellman, a professor of philosophy from Washington University, will speak at Brigham Young University Wednesday, Dec. 5.

"Interpreting the Bill of Rights: Alternative Conceptions of Rights" is the title of his presentation at 7:30 p.m. in 321 Maeser Building.Wellman will speak as part of a lecture series sponsored by the U.S. Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitution.

With master's and doctoral degrees from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona, Wellman has been a professor of philosophy at Washington University since 1968.

The university named him a distinguished professor in the humanities in 1988.
