The annual "Christmas for the Animals" program sponsored by the Humane Society of Utah is scheduled Saturday, Dec. 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the society's shelter, 4613 S. 4000 West.
The public is invited to bring a gift to put under the animals' special Christmas tree. Donated items are used at the shelter to help care for the animals housed there."We especially need cat litter," said community affairs coordinator Pauline Edwards. "Puppy and kitten chow are also on our wish list, as are towels, blankets and cleaning materials. And we always deeply appreciate cash donations with which we can purchase badly needed medical supplies and equipment."
Edwards noted that the society is a private organization that receives no taxes or other public funding and relies heavily on donations to make its shelter work.
"Whatever generosity the community can show us at this time will be tremendously helpful to our animals," Edwards said.
Refreshments will be served and Santa Claus will be on hand to help make the holidays a little brighter for the animals.
