The Hollywood Women's Press Club has announced its nominees for the 50th annual Golden Apple Awards luncheon Dec. 9 in Beverly Hills.

Nominated for their newsworthiness in the good news categories: actresses Glenn Close, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Shirley MacLaine, Meryl Streep, and actors Tom Cruise, Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, Patrick Swayze and Denzel Washington.Actress discovery of the year: Laura Dern, Sherilyn Fenn, Carrie Fisher, Julia Roberts and Wynona Ryder. Actor discovery of the year: Christopher Burke, Billy Connelly, Kyle McLaughlin, Bob Saget and John Shea. Sour apple nominees: Zsa Zsa Gabor and Eddie Murphy.

- DAMAGE FROM the spectacular election-night fire that ravaged Universal Studio's "Dick Tracy" set and the "New York street" used in many pictures, will add up to more than $25 million.

Producer-director Richard Attenborough, who was making "Chaplin" on the New York set, last week was busily checking out available sets in New York. And Sylvester Stallone, just days from wrapping up "Oscar," will finish the film at Universal Studios Florida and Disney MGM Studios, both in the Orlando area.
