Stanley Mark Smedley, age 51 passed away Saturday December 1, 1990 in a Salt Lake Hospital of Cancer.

He was born November 2, 1939 to James S. and Ruby Mabey Smedley of Bountiful, Utah.Married Ann Traveller Hansen, February 14, 1980.

Stan was a graduate of the University of Utah Law School and was a partner in the law firm of Bean and Smedley, Layton, Utah He was always active in the service of others and had just been elected to serve a 3rd term as a member of the Utah State House of Representatives. He recently was appointed to chair the Judiciary Committee.

Stan was chairman of the Bountiful City Power Commission, served as president of the Utah State Bar Association, chaired the Davis County Cancer Committee, was active in the United Way, Boy Scouts of America, Past president of the Bountiful Rotary Club, and had served his church as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher, a member of the Bountiful 1st ward Bishopric, and the Bountiful Stake High Council. He was currently serving as Young Mens President.

He loved the outdoors, sports and was an excellent squash player. He faced life with assurance, dignity and compassion. He left this life exhibiting these same attributes. Stan was a family man in the noblest sense. He cherished the time spent in family activities and strongly encouraged frequent reunions and gatherings.

He was a source of strength to all who knew him and he had a special affinity with the young. They sought his counsel.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, Bountiful; children James Mark, Bountiful; Steven Michael & his wife Shellene, Mesa, Arizona; Teia Marie Smedley and her husband David Rogers, North Salt Lake; step children Jill Hansen, Jeffrey Val Hansen, and Jay Howard Hansen, all Bountiful; one granddaughter Tiffanie Gibson; sisters and brother; Mrs. Dean (Elaine) Holbrook, Bountiful; Mrs. David (Sylvia S.) Dix, Connecticut; Mrs. Hal (Marion S.) Harrison; Mrs. Robert (Kathleen S.) van Dijk, American Fork; James J. and his wife Betty Smedley, Heber City.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 5, 1990 at 12:00 noon in the Bountiful Tabernacle 51 South Main. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary Chapel 295 North Main and Wednesday at the church from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery.
