Behind sophomore forward Mikki Kane's 14-point scoring night and a swarming defense, the University of Utah women's basketball team shut down Southwest Texas State, 67-38, on the opening night of the Lady Ute Rainbo Oil Classic to earn a finals berth against Vanderbilt tonight.

Vanderbilt defeated Loyola Marymount in Friday night's opening game. The championship contest will be at 8 p.m. in the Huntsman Center preceeded by a consolation game at 6 p.m.Kane, who buried six-of-eight field goals, including four in the first half, led a balanced Ute attack. Kane was not the only Ute to score big off the bench, as senior substitute Kelly Shaheen came in to score a season-high 11 points. Utah's pressure defense forced the Bobcats into 31 turnovers, with Kane picking off four steals and sophomore guard Kim Hill adding another four.

The Utes evened their record at 2-2 and will attempt to win their third Rainbo Classic crown in a row against Vanderbilt.
