Albert Moore had been robbed by gun-wielding bandits but couldn't get help because the handcuffs the robbers put on him scared people away.

Moore, a cigarette salesman, wandered Houston streets for about an hour Thursday, vainly trying to convince motorists and passers-by to come to his aid.Moore had been robbed and left handcuffed by thieves who were after his cigarette-filled van. Passers-by apparently feared Moore, who was wearing a suit, might have been an escaped prisoner.

One woman Moore asked for help simply ran away, police said.

Moore finally was freed of his handcuffs by deputies.
