Bishop William K. Weigand, Roman Catholic bishop of the Salt Lake City Diocese, will celebrate a Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 E. South Temple.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as the Virgin Mary, is said to have appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531. Because of her appearance, thousands of indigenous people were converted and baptized. Her appearance brought hope, dignity and love to a broken people, said Sister Jo Marie Arredondo, director of Hispanic affairs for the diocese.
