Ground has been broken for construction of a $100,000 Catholic church in this small, rural community.

Fund raising has been under the direction of Jack Hendrickson. He said $50,000 was donated by the Catholic Extension Society, based in Chicago. Other funding has been raised within the state. The masonry-faced, flat-roof structure was designed by Gillies, Stransky and Brems of Salt Lake City. Negotiations are being finalized with a contractor.

The St. Anthony of the Desert Church will accommodate up to 50 people in the 56-by-28-foot structure, as well as larger groups for social functions.

The building will have an attached courtyard. It will be located on a four-acre lot on the Sand Creek Road near the border of the Fishlake National Forest.
