A burglar who fled from a Farmington home on a bicycle Wednesday afternoon was arrested by a Davis County Sheriff's Department sergeant driving to work, according to the Farmington police.

A woman returning to her north Farmington home about 1 p.m. reported the man fled out the front door of her home, jumped on a mountain bike and pedaled away while she was walking up the driveway from her mailbox.Three units from the Farmington police department were joined by Utah Highway Patrol and sheriff's department deputies in searching for the suspect. Farmington sheriff's Sgt. Brian Weese was just coming on duty when he spotted the suspect on foot on the I-15 frontage road between Farmington and Kaysville.

He questioned the suspect, who admitted the burglary, and recovered jewelry and other items the suspect had in his pockets, police reported. The mountain bike had been ditched and was later recovered behind a shopping center at Shepard Lane and U.S. 89, police said.

Lawrence Bielecki, 46, was booked into the county jail on a second-degree felony burglary charge.
