A House subcommittee has approved plans by the Army National Guard to buy 641 acres of private land within and adjacent to Camp Williams.

The private acreage has hampered Utah National Guard manuevers in the area, according to Rep. Howard Nielson, R-Utah..A boy was killed by an unexploded round he found within the camp several years ago, Nielson said.

The Military Installations and Facilities Subcommittee cleared the purchase, which is expected to total less than $200,000. Land acquisition may begin Aug. 29.
