To the editor:

Could a mink rancher make a few comments on the stand taken by the Humane Society and Animal Rights against us and other animal farmers?I would like the public to know we are not brutal animal abusers. We are certified by an on-premise inspection by a veterinarian. The minks are not put to death with any clubbing, poison, electrocution or neck breaking. Our farms can be certified only if the approved method is used.

We are farmers. We are not out in the wilds trapping with open jaw traps. Ninety-nine percent of all fur farms are family owned. Our families need to be clothed, educated and fed balanced meals. Speaking of food, our animals eat better than most of your kids.

We pay taxes to educate your children and provide community needs.
