Stanley A. Shafer, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away November 23, 1990 from cardiac arrest following an auto accident in Florida.
Stan was born in Madison, Wisconsin on March 4, 1914 to Adolph and Mildred Simon Shafer.He attended schools in Madison and graduated from Madison Central High. He served in the US armed forces in the 11th Air Force based on Attu in the Aleutian Islands as a cryptographer. Following his discharge in 1945 he worked in construction in the midwest and came to Utah in 1947. On February 3, 1954 he married Winifred Jones Roth in Bountiful, Utah.
He was a kind, compassionate loving man, loaded with humor. His humor served well in helping the family through many a storm. He loved his family, football, basketball, game shows and talk shows. He had reciprocal friendship of over 14 years with the family dog, John L. Sullivan, "Sully". He also loved and took care of "Tate" and Mickey who took Tate's place in their lives (the family parakeets).
Survived by wife, Winifred; son, Larry A. & Betty Bateman Roth, Salt Lake City; Stanley E. & Barbara Ode Roth, Las Vegas; grandchildren, Trent A. & Susan M. Roth, Kimberly Roth, Debra R. & Arnie W. Hogue, Christopher W. & Wendi S. Roth, all of Salt Lake City; Nichole R. Roth, Las Vegas; great-grandchildren, Ivy Lee and Christopher W. Hogue, Janee E. Fife, Dayton R. Roth, Camylle, Christi, Lisa, Joe Steinfeld, all of Salt Lake City; brother, Robert C. & Evelyn A. Shafer, St. Petersburg, Florida; and many loved nieces and nephews in Salt Lake City; Florida; Madison, Wis.; Great Lakes, Michigan; California and Georgia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday Nov. 29, 12 noon, at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, where friends may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior. Interment, Murray City Cemtery.
