Water is flowing again from a city well in this southern Utah community.
Gayle Smith, director of the Bureau of Drinking Water and Sanitation, said his Utah Health Department office had received this report Tuesday morning from officials of the town, where a pump went out last Tuesday on the city's only well.During most of the past week repairmen have worked to pull a burned-out motor and pump from the well and to do other repair work. While the work was under way, water was trucked from nearby Page, Ariz.
Smith said city officials have worked with dispatch and determination to rectify the problem and to keep residents supplied with drinking water. "However, they need to do more than solve the immediate problem. They need to take preventive action so they don't run out of water again. This could be done by having a backup source of water. The city needs to equip another well," Smith said.
