Lawrence F. Eckman, 78, former contractor and city councilman of Bountiful, died Nov. 25, 1990, at his home of natural causes.

He was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the City Council and later served three terms. During his service he was chairman of the Bountiful City Power Commission and had been a member of the Bountiful Planning Commission.Mr. Eckman had been instrumental in acquiring land for the Bountiful Civic Center, for a Utah National Guard facility and for Bountiful parks.

Mr. Eckman was born June 8, 1912, in Bingham, Salt Lake County, and graduated from Murray High School. He was a Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. agent and worked as a mechanic foreman during World War II at Hill Air Force Base.

In 1947 he founded L.F. Eckman Construction Co., which built part of the South Davis Community Hospital, and was a member of a committee that worked for construction of the Lakeview Hospital. His firm constructed many residential and commercial buildings along the Wasatch Front.

Mr. Eckman was president of the Bountiful Rotary Club and helped raise funds for Scouting. He was a member of the Bountiful 16th Ward, the Oakridge Country Club and Bountiful Lions Club.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Bountiful 16th Ward, 720 E. 500 North. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 East, and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
