Some $50,000 has been earmarked by the Fillmore City Council for economic development.

The economic development money came from excess profits from the city-owned electric system. It won't be used to hire a full-time economic development director. The mayor accepted that assignment on a voluntary basis. He said he feels city officials have a responsibility to promote economic development and growth of Fillmore city."The money is going to be used in whatever way it needs to be to entice growth," the mayor said. He pledged it won't be used for salaries.
