David Allen, 668 Columbus St., has been sentenced to serve 120 days in a community treatment center and five years on probation for stealing cashier's checks.

U.S. District Court Chief Judge Bruce S. Jenkins said Allen should be allowed to leave the center for work and ordered him to pay restitution. In addition he must make available to the U.S. Probation Office "all personal and business financial records" that probation officers may request.Allen pleaded guilty to one count of stealing cashier's checks from a Salt Lake bank.

His brother, Steven Allen of Cucamonga, Calif., pleaded guilty to possessing $110,000 worth of cashier's checks stolen by David Allen. In June, U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Greene sentenced Steven Allen to 750 hours of community service and placed him on five years' probation.

In exchange for Steven Allen's guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss three additional counts for stolen checks worth nearly $400,000.
