For the 10th year in a row, the call is going out for the Utah Tuba Day Christmas Concert, scheduled Saturday, Dec. 1, at noon in the J.C. Penney Court of Orem's University Mall.
Included in the free performance will be tuba, euphonium, baritone, sousaphone, helicon, ophicleide, serpent and tuben. People who play any of these instruments are invited to bring a music stand to the concert and perform with the ensemble. A rehearsal will precede the performance at 9 a.m. in E-250 of Brigham Young University's Harris Fine Arts Center. Participants are encouraged to decorate themselves and their instruments in holiday fashion."Tuba Day is a great experience for musicians normally relegated to the back row of the band because they have a rare chance to shine," says BYU faculty member Steve Call, organizer of the event. "We make it fun for the audience with surprises and by offering a `low point' of the holiday season."
