Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal outlasted Canadians Grant Connell and Glenn Michibata in a five-set marathon today to advance to the championship match of the ATP World Doubles tennis finals.

The Spanish pair squandered two match points in the fourth set of a roller-coaster contest before eventually winning 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 in three hours, 38 minutes. They will meet either Americans Scott Davis and David Pate or Guy Forget of France and Switzerland's Jakob Hlasek in Sunday's final. Those two teams had split their first four sets when the match was halted by darkness.

Davis and Pate won the first two sets 6-3, 6-4 before the unbeaten combination of Forget and Hlasek fought back, taking the next two sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

They broke Davis' serve in the 10th game of the third set and rallied from a break down in the fourth as the second-seeded Americans became increasingly rattled.

The match will resume Sunday morning with a one-hour break before the final.
