Dr. Thomas Carter Bithell, Professor Emeritus, University of Virginia Medical School, died November 19, 1990 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born August 19, 1930 in Salt Lake City and lived in Price, Utah, son of Afton Staines Bithell. Dr. Bithell was educated at the U of U, receiving his BS in Biology in 1952 and his MD in 1955. He was employed at the University of Virginia Medical Center for 19 years; serving as director of the Blood Coagulation Research Laboratory and later as a professor of Pathology and Internal Medicine.Dr. Bithell is survived by his wife, Vreni O. Bithell of Charlottsville; four children, Amy Bithell, Blacksburg, Vir.; Thomas Bithell, Boston Mass.; Lisa Kirk of Cooke City, Montana; and Gregory Bithell of Boston, Mass.; one granddaughter, Meghan Kirk. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Shakeshaft.
A memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Charlottesville-Albemarie Rescue Squad or to the Cardiology Research Fund, Div. of Cardiology, U of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Charlottesville, Virginia 22908. The Teague Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
