A University of Utah employee from Bountiful was charged Wednesday with forgery and theft relating to discrepancies in collections at the School of Medicine.

Cordell "Buzz" Allen, an administrative manager in the medical school, was charged with the second-degree felonies following an investigation of several months, said Wayne D. Shepherd, the university's police chief."We're looking at right around $9,000, but we're still investigating," said Shepherd, who declined to elaborate.

Bud Ellett, chief of the Salt Lake County attorney's justice divison, said the charges allege that Allen forged billings in the name of another person, then converted the subsequent payments in three checks of $3,000 to his own use.
