Notre Dame Coach Digger Phelps gambled that Chris Mills couldn't make the outside shot. Bad choice.
Mills, Arizona's versatile 6-foot-6 swingman, canned five 3-pointers on the way to 19 points in the first half and finished with 25, powering the second-ranked Wildcats to a 91-61 rout of No. 25 Notre Dame in the semifinals of the preseaon NIT.Arizona, 3-0, will face No. 3 Arkansas, 98-88 winners over No. 6 Duke in their semifinal, in Friday night's championship game at Madison Square Garden. Before that, Duke will face Notre Dame in the consolation game.
"I thought that Mills could shoot the '3'," said Phelps, "but I didn't think that well."
In the first game, Isaiah Morris came off the bench to score 19 points and grab 10 rebounds and the third-rated Razorbacks rallied from an 11-point deficit in the first half to defeat Duke and avenge their 97-83 loss to the Blue Devils in last season's Final Four.
