Two new social services bills have been approved for submission to the 1991 Utah Legislature.
The Legislature's Social Services Interim Study Committee approved a bill to establish an Omnibus Disabilities Service Act. The bill changes the name of the Utah State Training School in American Fork to the Utah State Developmental Center; states who can enter the center; provides a philosophical basis for service to the handicapped; and encourages the establishment of family support groups.Legislators on the study committee said the name change is simply an update in terminology and states who can enter the center does not change present admission standards.
The committee also approved a bill to bring the Utah Fair Housing Act into compliance with federal laws.
Both bills will be presented to next year's legislative session for approval.
