An Orem boy was killed Wednesday evening in an auto-pedestrian accident and two Ogden men died Tuesday from injuries suffered in separate freeway accidents during a snowstorm.
The three who were killed are:Benjamin Nielsen, 9, Orem.
Shane Welton, 18, Ogden.
Darin L. Youngman, 22, Ogden.
Nielsen, was struck about 5:50 p.m. at 260 E. 1300 South, Orem, by an eastbound GMC Suburban driven by Vivian Nazzise. The boy was hit 11/2 feet from the south side of the road after apparently running across 1300 South, according to Orem Police.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. The boy's address was not available from police.
Utah Highway Patrol officials said Welton died at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Utah Medical Center of injuries suffered in an accident on Interstate 15 in Layton Tuesday morning.
The UHP said Welton was traveling southbound near the south Layton exit when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed through the median and collided head-on with a northbound car driven by Mike Burch, 25, of Woods Cross.
Welton, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his car and suffered head injuries.
Burch, who was wearing a seat belt, was in stable condition Wednesday at Humana Hospital-Davis North with a broken nose and cuts and bruises.
Youngman was killed when the car he was driving spun out of control at 12:37 p.m. Tuesday on I-15 a half-mile north of the Riverdale overpass.
The car, going south, careened across the freeway, went through the median and collided almost head-on with a northbound semi-tractor trailer driven by Oral Kemp, 37, of Magna, UHP troopers said. Young-man was pronounced dead at the scene.
