Five departments at Brigham Young University will share $21,000 in an unrestricted grant from Exxon Corp.

Departments sharing the grant are: chemical engineering, $9,000; civil engineering, $2,000; mechanical engineering, $1,000; J. Reuben Clark Law School, $1,000; and the Marriott School of Management, $8,000.Glen L. Palmer led Exxon's engineering recruiting team on a recent visit to BYU. He said his company awards such gifts to universities with strong chemical engineering and mechanical engineering departments and with graduates employed by Ex-xon.

Palmer explained that the amounts of the Exxon University Departmental Grants are related to the corporation's hiring of graduates from individual schools or departments, with special emphasis on disciplines critical to Exxon's business.
