Edmund W. Allen, a professional engineer and founder of E.W. Allen & Associates, an engineering company, has received an award of merit from the Products Council, an organization of suppliers to architects and engineers for the building trades.

Allen was cited for his lifelong service to the community and building industry and especially for his recent work on the implementation of the base isolator earthquake-proof foundation at the Salt Lake City-County Building, the first time the system has been used on an existing building.Some of his other major projects have been the Metropolitan Hall of Justice, Chase Fine Arts Center, University of Utah College of Pharmacy, the Snowbird tram station, plaza, hotel, bridge and Mid-Gad Restaurant, Rampton Science Building at Salt Lake Community College, the Green River Bridge near Vernal and Valley Fair Mall.
