Four Utah companies are among 136 American small businesses that will receive government-backed loans as a result of this month's milestone debenture financing for the Small Business Administration's 504 development company loan program.

Susan Engeleiter, SBA administrator, signed the closing papers for the offering during a ceremony attended by the underwriters, Merrill Lynch and Citicorp; representatives of Harris Trust, the transfer agent; the Development Company Funding Corp., the program's fiscal agent; and the National Association of Development Companies.The companies and the amount of their loans are County Furniture Partnership, West Jordan; Kim H. and Barbara Peterson, Spanish Fork; Keith P. Snelson, Springville, and Stephen and Sonja Amy, Provo.

The 504 loan program, which joins the SBA, certified development companies and private lenders, is a partnership to provide economic development loans and marked its fourth anniversary recently by reaching $1 billion in debenture sales.
